RIP Sand Sculpture

On our journey around the beaches down in Narragansett (Scarborough, then Roger Wheeler and finally Town Beach) we came across this local woman who was working on a sand sculpture.  I first noticed the sculpture when I was walking down the beach and from behind it looked a little like a really horrible castle.  As we walked by, I took a quick look and was amazed with what she had done.  Apparently she waits until the tourists have gone home for the summer and then she spends a lot of her time down on the beach scultping.  She'll then take pictures and use them as holiday greeting cards for friends all over the world.

Took the girls down to Narragansett for the day on Monday to celebrate my birthday!  What a picture perfect day to be at the beach.

Thursday, October 7, 2010

Last year about this time, I was fortunate to get the opportunity to do my first real "shoot".  The men who graced my lens that night belong to the band, The Bravery.  Here are a few of my favorite shots from that night.  Hopefully I get the chance to shoot them again at some point.

It was a gorgeous sky until some gray clouds started rolling across.

Had the honor of taking part in the Doug Flutie 5K for Autism today.  I was joined by my oldest, Nica, and 16 other wonderful people as we walked, jogged and ran 3.11 miles to raise funds to aid financially disadvantaged families who need help taking care of their children with autism and to help fund education and research into the causes and consequesnces of childhood autism.

Thanks "Team Tim" and I hope we can make this an annual event!

Shoot With Ms. Emily

Just wanted to say thanks to Emily for allowing me to hang out during her Senior picture shoot.  I got to snap a few shots as we walked around downtown and this was one of my favorites.

I swear these cleats were clean at the beginning of the season!

Fan Dedication

For me, THIS is fan dedication.  Not only is he there supporting his team when they're 7 games behind (this number quickly changed by the end of the night as Boston lost and the Yankees beat Tampa Bay), but he's taking the time to make sure that you score each bobble, horrible pitch, lousy at bat and dropped ball.  With only 3 more games before Boston is eliminated, how many more times will we see this at Fenway this season?

This past Saturday, Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) Team Hot and Sweaty held their annual fund raising dinner. About 100 people attended the event that included dinner, dancing, silent auction, 50/50 raffle and a performance by Motorboat, a band out of Franklin. The team was able to raise over $2,200 thanks to the generosity by friends and family.

Team Hot and Sweaty is still looking to raise funds to meet their goal. All funds that are raised go directly to helping the Jimmy Fund/Dana Farber Cancer Research Center. If you would like to donate, please feel free to click on the links below and make a donation. All funds must be received by September 30, 2010 for them to be applied to this years fundraiser.

Flirty and Dirty

Spent the afternoon shooting Jen down in Newport. Poor girl almost got swept out to sea, cut her hand, hurt her ankle and had to endure a creepy female stalker and lots of male gawkers.  She was definitely a good sport though. I hope she and her husband enjoy the photos we got!

Life's a Beach!

I got a little busy the past few days (heading to the beaches of Maine, visiting friends, soccer games and a benefit dinner) and haven't had a chance to post anything, so I figured I'd make up for it by posting a couple of pictures today.  Enjoy!

"Apparuerunt in terra nostra flores"

I recently took my camera and headed to the South Natick/Wellesley/Dover area to try and get some shots to submit for a photo contest I'm considering entering.  As I was driving down Rt. 16 and along the Charles River, I noticed this statue perched on the rock.  I've seen it numerous times over the years, but never had a chance to stop and take a look at it.  From across the river, you can't really see any houses, so of course my curiosity of who might have placed it there got the best of me.  I grabbed a few shots of it and after a little bit of editing, I decided to search online to see if there was a story behind it, and of course the web didn't fail me.

There are several myths surrounding the statue, when it was placed there and why.  Some think that it was placed there as a reminder for a child who drowned in the river in 1952.  Another story is that it was placed there as a reminder of a mistress that Daniel Sargent, who apparently had the statue commissioned, once had in Paris.

Whatever the reason, it's a stunning vision as you drive around the bend on Route 16 in South Natick.

"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"

They kill good trees to put out bad newspapers. -   James G. Watt

I've been driving past this giant lot where all these trees were felled in order to put in an indoor motocross park.  They've been there for a few months now while the owners get their financing in order.  It's a shame that they all had to be taken down before it was necessary.  Just think of all the fresh oxegyn they could have provided.

Beautiful Flickers of Light

“When was the last time you spent a quiet moment just doing nothing - just sitting and looking at the sea, or watching the wind blowing the tree limbs, or waves rippling on a pond, a flickering candle or children playing in the park?” ~ Ralph Marston

There is nothing that says "home" to me more than a group of flickering candles and the scent of something delicious cooking in the oven.  What a nice combo I've got going right now - apple pie candles and roasted chicken and potatoes with a garlic, parsley and chive seasoning.  Yum!

It's Puppy Love

"Marshal" (new member of the Carlin family)

After running around the soccer fields this morning with my 2nd favorite red head and his friend, Marshal decided that he definitely needed a nap in the warm sun.

Always Remember...Never Forget

While this blog is for pictures I've taken, I found this photo while perusing a friends Facebook and decided to "borrow" it (and would give credit where it's due if I knew who created it).  Please take a moment today to say a prayer or hold a moment of silence to remember those innocent lives which were taken much too soon.  Also in your thoughts should be those who risk their lives on a daily basis to ensure that we're safe.  Thank you to all the soldiers, police officers, firefighters and EMT's who put others first.  We love you. <3
